Carotid artery stenting

Carotid artery stenting is a minimally invasive procedure performed to treat carotid artery stenosis, a condition where the carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain, become narrowed due to the buildup of plaque. The procedure involves the placement of a stent, a small mesh tube, to widen the narrowed segment of the carotid artery and improve blood flow to the brain.

Balloon Angioplasty

A small balloon at the tip of the catheter is inflated at the site of the narrowing, compressing the plaque against the arterial wall and widening the lumen.

Stent Placement

A stent, which is mounted on a balloon, is then advanced to the narrowed segment. When the balloon is inflated, the stent expands, pressing against the arterial wall and holding it open. The stent remains in place to maintain the patency of the carotid artery.
