In the recent reports, The Economic Times reported that India’s heatwave turns deadly with over 100 deaths, 40,000 suspected heatstroke cases. To be protected from the deadly heatwave let’s know about the tips to remain cool and the signs of heatstroke to be aware of.

What is Heatstroke?

Well, if you sweat too much your body loses so much water in the salts that you can’t properly adjust your body temperature moreover, the heat stays inside your body, and this leads to heatstroke. Sometimes, it leads to death as mentioned above over 100 lives lost, 40,000 suspected heatstroke cases.

Signs of Heatstroke

If someone has heatstroke, you may see some of the following signs:

  • Hot, flushed and dry skin
  • Restless and confused
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Bounding pulse and high temperature
  • Rapid decrease in level of response

What to do?

  • Move them to a cool area quickly and remove their outer clothing.
  • Call ambulance for emergency help
  • Help sit them down and wrap them in a cold wet sheet.
  • Pour water on the sheet to keep it wet until their temperature falls below 37.5 degrees
  • In case there’s no sheet, you could sponge them with cold water or fan them to keep them cool.
  • Monitor their level of response

Tips to stay cool in this extra hot summers

  • Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate. Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Take cool showers to lower your body temperature.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothes to help your body breathe.
  • Stay indoors. Avoid staying outside between 12 PM to 3 PM.
  • Keep your head covered when outside.
  • Use sunscreen to protect yourself from sunburn
  • Try to eat refreshing meals like salads and fruit.
