As per the news, “a total of 192 people have been suspected to have contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). A total of 172 cases GBS cases have been confirmed. What Happens in Guillain-Barré syndrome?

At first, your hands and feet might feel weak or tingly. Then there will be your foot falls asleep. But then, it can get worse, spreading to other parts of your body. In very bad cases, people can’t move at all! That’s why it’s a medical emergency, and most people need to go to the hospital.

What does news say about the Guillain-Barré syndrome in India?

As per information, 40 cases are from the Pune MC area whereas 92 are from the newly added villages of the PMC area. 29 cases have been reported from Pimpri Chinchwad whereas 28 GBS incidents have come from the Pune Rural area. Eight cases have been reported from other districts.

The government thinks contaminated water might be the reason. So, on February 6, the Pune Municipal Corporation shut down 30 private water plants in Nanded, Dhayari, and parts of Sinhgad village. These places are now called the epicentre of the outbreak (which means most cases started there).

How to Know about the symptoms?

  • Tingling and numbness in the hands and feet
  • Weakness spreading from legs to arms
  • Difficulty walking or lifting things due to muscle weakness.
  • Paralysis in serious cases, making movement impossible.
  • Breathing problems, sometimes needing a ventilator.
  • Heart and blood pressure issues, causing dizziness or irregular heartbeat.
  • Sharp nerve pain, cramps, or muscle aches.
  • Trouble swallowing and speaking if throat and face muscles are affected.
